At The Little Surgery Centre, the littlest among us is the most important. We are a practice dedicated to the surgical care of children aged 16 years and below. We understand that surgery can be scary, and every child is unique. We aim to deliver a smooth surgical experience for our little patients and their families. 

 

Our Little Surgery has more than 20 years of experience and expertise in paediatric general surgery, urology and endoscopy.  You can be assured that your child is receiving the best and most up-to-date care for their condition.

Dr Ong Lin Yin 

Senior Consultant Paediatric Surgery

 

Dr Ong Lin Yin is an experienced paediatric surgeon who has dedicated her life and practice to paediatric surgery and urology for the last 20 years. She was a senior consultant and former Head of Department of Paediatric Surgery at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH), where she has practiced since 2003. 

 

Besides her vast experience in general paediatric surgery, Dr Ong’s subspeciality interests include paediatric thoracic surgery, oesophageal atresia, bowel management and minimally invasive surgery. She contributed actively to the setup and development of the thoracic and bowel management services in KKH.

 

As part of her Advanced Specialty Training, Dr Ong completed her fellowship at the renown Hôpital Necker-Enfantes Malades in Paris, France, under the tutelage of Professor Yann Revillon, a pioneer in Paediatric Thoracic Surgery and a strong proponent of Minimally Invasive Surgery.

Awards & Recognition

The recipient of multiple awards during her career, Dr Ong has always been a humble and approachable doctor and is known for being “on the ground”. Her awards include SingHealth Quality Service Awards, Service from the Heart Awards, a Group Service Quality - You Shine Award. In 2007, Dr Ong was awarded the College of Surgeons Gold Medal for the best performing advanced specialist trainee at the Paediatric Surgery Exit Examination. Her SingHealth 20-year Long Service Award is a testament to her commitment and dedication to public service.

Education for Paediatric Medicine

Involvement in Education

While in institutional practice, Dr Ong was actively involved in the mentoring and teaching of future generations of doctors and surgeons. She conducted medical student, medical officer and residency teaching; organised laparoscopic and basic surgical skills workshops; and developed assessments and conducted examinations for the paediatric surgery trainees.

 

Her appointments included Senior Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Adjunct Assistant Professor, Duke-NUS Medical School, Adjunct Assistant Professor, NTU-LKC School of Medicine. She was the Advanced Specialty Training director for Paediatric Surgery in KK Hospital and clinical faculty for General Surgery Residency Programme. As Deputy vice chair for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development for the Surgery Academic Clinical Programme, she was able to understand the needs and aspirations of the next generation of young surgeons. 

 

Dr Ong is currently a member of the Residency Accreditation Committee for Paediatric Surgery and an examiner for the General Surgery M.Med examination.

Research

Involvement in Research

Dr Ong has also been active in research during her time in KKH, where she held grants and published in international peer review journals. She has also been an invited speaker at international conferences.
